Al-Basma Center for People with Intellectual Disabilities – Beit Sahour, Bethlehem
(Prevocational & Vocational Training, Special Education)

Al-Basma Center is one of the community centers that is technically supervised by the Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program in Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation (BASR), which contributed to the establishment of the center in 1987 under the umbrella of the Women’s Union in the city of Beit Sahour. The center aims to improve the quality of life for people (mainly adolescents and adults) who have mild to moderate intellectual difficulties in the Bethlehem area through the provision of special education and vocational training.

The center currently includes 23 students with moderate intellectual disabilities who benefit directly from the services provided by the center, as each student is treated differently, based on the level of disability. Students participate in many programs that contribute to enhancing their self-esteem, integrating them, preparing them to be part of the social context, improving their communication skills as well as teaching them a craft that enables them to enhance their potential and create income as part of learning the requirements of daily life.
